Occupational safety and health (OSH) risks in Europe’s agriculture and forestry sector threaten its long-term viability. A report in English has been published by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work exploring the OSH challenges facing the sector.

The document presents new opportunities and risks — resulting from, for instance, the emergence of smart farming technologies and climate change — and the implications for OSH. This interesting report also highlights the need to address the sector’s often atypical employment practices and the lack of transparent, robust reporting on accidents and ill health. Additionally, it includes several recommendations to tackle the issues identified and ensuring the sector’s sustainability.
